We have a "wedding cake" fixture in our living room, probably the only original lighting fixture in the house. It was pretty grim, especially since it was dropping soot on our coffee table. We called an electrician to rewire the fixture and put in new sockets. And look what he discovered! This beautiful brass was painted over with a zillion coats of paint. It just looked lumpy. Amazing.
